And already speculating about Just Cause 3. Just Cause 2 awaits a late March release but already Swedish developer Avalanche is onto its next, unannounced project. "You know, of course I can't tell you," lead designer Peter Johansson told Eurogamer when asked what else the developer was working on, "but some really cool stuff." "It's not a puzzle game! FFXIII PS3 includes FFXIV beta invite

Monster RPG ships 5m copies. There's a Final Fantasy XIV closed beta invite inside the PS3 Final Fantasy XIII box. Rummage around near the manual and you'll find a code for the Square Enix Members website. Redeem and you'll be on a VIP list for the FFXIV closed beta. You'll also receive a special in-game item to use in the 14th Final Fantasy game. Jagged Alliance 3 announced for 2011

Turn-based RPG series changes hands. Acclaimed turn-based role-playing series Jagged Alliance is to return after more than 10 years. Independent German publisher bitComposer has acquired full IP rights and plans to release a third game sometime in 2011. There are no other details to be had. Previous licence owner Strategy First took control after Jagged Alliance 2 was released in 1999, but only managed to put out an expansion pack and a DS port. Read more...

Bigpoint making Battlestar browser MMO

Are you alive? Bigpoint has announced plans to release a browser-based "tactical space combat and adventure" MMO based on Battlestar Galactica this autumn. Battlestar Galactica Online will be playable on Syfy.com for a 30-day trial period, during which players will sign up as a human or Cylon, and is based on the Unity engine. "For the first time ever, we're relying completely on Unity in order to offer our users fantastic game graphics right in their browsers," Bigpoint CEO Heiko Hubertz said. Read more...

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood featuring. Nintendo has announced that the Hanabi Festival returns to Virtual Console starting this week, and that Castlevania: Rondo of Blood is among the games due out during its latest run. The Hanabi Festival is Nintendo's way of flogging retro games previously only released in Japan through WiiWare, and is named after a Japanese fireworks festival. The latest Hanabi kicks off on Friday 12th March, and will include Rondo of Blood (originally only released on the PC Engine in Japan), Milon's Secret Castle (NES), Ironclad (NeoGeo) and Lode Runner (NES). Oscar winners making Ghost Recon film

Ubisoft commissions live action short. Ubisoft is paying Oscar-winning directors Francois Alaux and Herve de Crecy $10m to make a live action film based on new game Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. The 'short' will be 20 minutes long and serve as a prequel, setting up the story for the US special forces squad, the Hollywood Reporter reported. Children of Men writer Tim Sexton is also on board. Francois Alaux and herve de Crecy won Best Animated Short Film on Sunday night for their creation Logorama. Read more...

EA to publish 38 Studios' new RPG

Project Mercury for PC/PS3/360. EA has announced plans to publish 38 Studios' single-player RPG Project Mercury on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Developed by 38 Studios subsidiary Big Huge Games, Project Mercury is set in a universe created by fantasy author R. A. Salvatore, with art direction by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane and creative direction from Ken Rolston, who was lead designer on Elder Scrolls titles Morrowind and Oblivion. 38 Studios is the outfit established by American baseball player Curt Schilling. The company is currently working on an MMORPG codenamed Copernicus, and both Salvatore and McFarlane have been working on that too. Read more...

R.U.S.E. dated for June

Open PC beta has begun. Ubisoft's bluff-based strategy game R.U.S.E. will be released on 4th June on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. The date arrives as a public PC beta test gets underway on Steam, granting access to six factions, seven maps and three multiplayer modes. Head over to Steam's R.U.S.E. page to join in. R.U.S.E., for those who don't know, involves tricking opposing generals by using a number of pre-defined ruses. NFS: Shift gets Exotic DLC next week

Seven curvy cars, one voluptuous track. Several snazzy supercars and one raunchy racetrack will be available for Need for Speed: Shift next Thursday, 18th March. Stuffed in the Exotic Racing Series pack, these will cost 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80/9.60) on Xbox Live or $10 from the PlayStation Store. The new cars are an Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, BMW M1 Procar, Gumpert Apollo, Honda NSX, McLaren MP4-12C, Maserati GranTurismo S and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss. Read more...

2.0 also for iPhone and Wii this autumn. EA has officially announced EA Sports Active 2.0 for iPhone, PS3 and Wii and said it will be released this autumn. There's no mention of an Xbox 360 version. Perhaps they think some of us are beyond help? Anyway, the new version of the fitness software will come with new leg and arm straps equipped with motion sensors. There's also a heart-rate monitor.
